One of the questions we're asked most often by guests is, "What should we do while we're here?" The answer is always the same – as much or as little as you like!

The Eastern Algarve is a wonderful part of Portugal where life moves at a gentler pace. Whether you're visiting for the first time or returning for another stay at Drumlin Villa, we've put together our ideal seven-day itinerary to help you make the most of your holiday.

Day 1 – Arrive and Unwind

After checking in at Drumlin Villa, take some time to settle in and enjoy your surroundings. Have a swim, relax by the pool with a cool drink and let the holiday begin.

In the evening, head to nearby Manta Rota, Monto Gordo or Vila Real de Santo Antonio for dinner. There's nothing quite like enjoying fresh grilled fish while watching the sun set over the Atlantic.

Don't worry about seeing everything on your first day – you're on holiday!

Day 2 – Discover Tavira

Tavira is one of our favourite towns in the Algarve and is only a short drive from the villa.

Spend the morning wandering through its cobbled streets, crossing the famous Roman bridge and exploring the many churches and historic buildings. Stop for coffee in one of the pretty squares before browsing the local shops.

For lunch, choose one of the riverside restaurants before taking the ferry to Ilha de Tavira if the weather is warm enough. The beach stretches for miles and never feels overcrowded.

Day 3 – Beach Day

No holiday to the Algarve would be complete without a day at the beach.

Our favourites include Praia Verde, Manta Rota and Cacela Velha, each offering something a little different. Whether you're looking for gentle waves, long walks or a beachside café, you'll find it here.

Pack a picnic, bring a good book and simply enjoy the slower pace of life.

Day 4 – Visit Spain

One of the great advantages of staying in the Eastern Algarve is how close you are to Spain.

Drive to Vila Real de Santo António and take the short ferry across the River Guadiana to Ayamonte. Wander through the colourful streets, enjoy authentic tapas and soak up a slightly different atmosphere before returning to Portugal in the afternoon.

It's an easy day trip that many of our guests tell us is one of the highlights of their holiday.

Day 5 – Markets and Local Flavours

Portugal's markets are always worth exploring.

Depending on the day of the week, visit Tavira, Loulé or Vila Real de Santo António to browse local produce, handmade crafts and regional delicacies.

Pick up some fresh fruit, local cheeses, olives and perhaps a bottle of Portuguese wine to enjoy back at the villa.

Sometimes the simplest meals are the most memorable.

Day 6 – Explore the Ria Formosa

The Ria Formosa Natural Park is one of Portugal's greatest natural treasures.

Take a boat trip, go birdwatching or simply enjoy a peaceful walk through this unique coastal landscape. If you're lucky, you may spot flamingos and other wildlife that call the lagoon home.

It's a wonderful change of pace from the beaches and a reminder of just how special this part of Portugal really is.

Day 7 – Relax and Reflect

By now you'll probably have discovered your own favourite beach, café or restaurant.

Spend your final day doing exactly what you've enjoyed most during your stay. Perhaps it's another morning by the pool, one last walk along the beach or a leisurely lunch in one of the local villages.

Holiday memories are often made in these quieter moments.

Until Next Time...

A week in the Eastern Algarve always seems to pass far too quickly, but we hope this itinerary gives you a taste of everything that makes this beautiful corner of Portugal so special.

Of course, every guest discovers their own favourite places, and we're always happy to share our latest recommendations when you stay at Drumlin Villa.

We look forward to welcoming you soon.
